2012 BMW R1200GS Adventure Triple Black Review

While the R 1200 GS is a consummate all-rounder, the Adventure is a true continent-crossing motorcycle. And with the addition of a special edition Triple Black version, the unstoppable success story of the R 1200 GS continues.

Whether company car park or Bedouin village - the special model R 1200 GS Adventure Triple Black is not only at home everywhere in the world, it also guarantees an impressive appearance at all times. Three differing black tones make the look of the R 1200 GS Adventure Triple Black extra special.

The painted parts are finished in Sapphire Black metallic, and the fork and engine are anodised in black. The bike's refined overall appearance is rounded off by the rear frame and wheel suspension in Asphalt Grey metallic, the cylinder head cover in Granite Grey metallic and silver knee protectors made of aluminium. The seat has a special premiere feature: it is available for the first time without the GS symbol.

The exclusive Triple Black design makes the R 1200 GS Adventure Triple Black a real eye-catcher as well as a highlight in the long enduro history of BMW Motorrad

This special edition GS combines the distinctive, rugged looks of the R 1200 GS Adventure with the subtle, classic Triple Black styling. Three distinctive, understated colours – sapphire black, granite grey and asphalt grey – transform the appearance of the Telelever forks, DOHC Boxer engine, rear frame, Paralever swingarm and iconic opposed cylinder head covers.

The BMW R 1200 GS is the best-selling adventure-sports motorcycle in the UK this year, with the Adventure version close behind in second. The two combined outsell every other motorcycle in the country above 125cc.

The first in the range of Triple Black motorcycles, the R 1200 GS, was launched in 2010 and has proved to be very popular. The Adventure Triple Black offers the same dark colours, but also features a huge 33-litre fuel tank, a taller touring screen, spoked wheels, longer travel suspension (ideal for on and off-road expeditions) and rugged engine protection bars.

Tony Jakeman, BMW Motorrad Marketing Manager, said: “The first Triple Black motorcycle, the R 1200 GS, is a huge success. The combination of the iconic GS looks with the black paintwork was such a hit with customers that it was only a matter of time before the Adventure Triple Black was created.
