Yamaha YZF R1

The 2008 Yamaha YZF-R1 is unashamedly based on MotoGP technology. The YCC-T fly-by-wire throttle system along with the World’s first electronic variable-length intake funnel system and slipper-type back torque-limiting clutch all come from MotoGP testing. A short-stroke 998cc DOHC, 16-valve, liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine produces more tractable power than ever; the Yamaha Chip Control Throttle controls a 32-bit ECU fuel injection system for super-responsive, smooth, instantaneous power delivery and a two-piece ergonomically designed fuel tank carries fuel in the rear section, which helps centraise the mass, while the front half contains a Ram-Air-fed airbox for increased power. God, this sounds like the spec sheet, but Yamaha have gone all out this year, perhaps with the knowledge that they will have to pull something spectacular out of the bag in 2008 to beat the Ducati V-twin 1198cc 1098 S since the introduction of an increased capacity for the twins in World Super Bikes. Yamaha have done their very best to increase aerodynamics, reduce engine friction and take advantage of the latest in computer control. Yamaha rider, Noriyuki Haga, came awfully close to taking the WSB championship last year finishing just 2 points behind James Toseland on the Honda CBR1000RR. Although it has to be said, Toseland rode the wheels off the Honda to win. It’s amazing what the chance of a MotoGp berth can do – Toseland is moving to Yamaha’s MotoGP squad in 2008.

All in all, the Yamaha YZF-R1 is pretty much unchanged from 2007. Seeing the 2007 model came within a gnat’s whisker of winning the WSB championship, that’s understandable. Valentino Rossi, Yamaha’s MotoGp rider and several times World Champion took one for a spin and was very impressed.

Reviews and Opinions
Since it’s original launch, the Yamaha YZF-R1 has had journalists and reviewers reaching for the nearest superlative. Universally liked doesn’t even come close, in fact I don’t think I have ever had a bad word said about it. Yamaha really put a great package together with this bike. Race bred it may be, but as a road package it’s hard to beat. Impeccable manners, extremely powerful yet controllable engine, comfortable riding position. I know Rossi is paid to like the bike, but his comments actually seemed heart felt and I can’t imagine him laying down a line of bullshit just to sell a bike. At the end of the day, he’s more concerned with pleasing his legion of fans than sucking up to Yamaha.

I used to own the 750 version, the YZF 750RR and that was a joy to ride on a day-to-day basis. If you are looking for a usable, fast liter bike, this is a good bet.

Yamaha pertama kali meluncurkan produk YZF-R1 di tahun 1998 sebagai perbaikan dari generasi mesin Genesis yang dilepas mulai tahun 1984. Perbaikan yang dilakukan ini menghasilkan mesin yang lebih pendek sehingga wheelbase pun dapat dikurangi dan mengoptimalkan center of gravity dan kemampuan handling.

Generasi tahun 2009 dari literbike keluaran Yamaha ini juga mengusung beberapa modifikasi dari generasi sebelumnya. Setidaknya, Yamaha memutuskan untuk melakukan perbaikan pada sisi chasis dan terutama pada bagian mesin. Salah satu yang paling menarik adalah pengaplikasian firing interval yang diadaptasi dari MotoGP.

Bila biasanya dua dari keempat piston yang ada bergerak dalam waktu yang bersamaan, maka keempat piston yang digunakan di sini bergerak dengan interval 90ยบ dari piston yang lain sehingga mampu mengurangi fluktuasi tenaga yang biasa terjadi pada mesin dengan empat silinder. Teknologi yang disebut crossplane ini pertama kali muncul di ajang MotoGP lewat Yamaha YZR-M1.

Untuk meningkatkan performa di tikungan jelas peran chasis dan suspensi sangatlah penting. Kerangka aluminium dengan desain baru sengaja dipasang di sini untuk mengimbangi teknologi crossplane yang sudah terpasang pada mesinnya. Entah kenapa tapi agaknya Yamaha menganggap kapasitas 998cc pada mesin generasi sebelumnya masih cukup handal dan tak ada peningkatan pada versi 2009 ini.

Secara fisik, tak banyak perubahan yang dibuat Yamaha pada YZF-R1 ini. Secara umum bentuk firing lama tetap dipertahankan meski beberapa lekukan dihilangkan dan memberi kesan lebih ringkas sekaligus lebih rendah dari versi tahun 2008. Selain terlihat ringkas, ternyata bobot motor ini pun berkurang hampir lima kilogram dibanding dengan pendahulunya.

Untuk andalan baru ini, Yamaha menyediakan empat warna pilihan, Team Yamaha Blue/White; Cadmium Yellow; Pearl White/Rapid Red dan Raven/Candy Red, dengan kisaran harga antara US$12.390 sampai US$12.490 atau sekitar Rp137 jutaan. Bila berminat Anda sudah bisa memiliki motor garang ini karena Yamaha sudah meluncurkan motor ini sejak bulan Januari 2009 lalu.

Kawasaki ZZR 1400

Kawasaki meluncurkan ZZR1400 yang diklaim sebagai sepeda motor paling kuat saat ini. Mesin empat silinder segaris-nya dengan ruang bakar 1,352cc mampu memproduksi 125kW.

Kehadiran model ini mengingatkan pada masa-masa pertarungan sengit antara Suzuki Hayabusa, Honda Blackbird dan Kawasaki ZX-12R untuk menjadi sepeda tercepat di dunia. Namun mereka belum bisa menembus batas 300km/jam. Apakah ZZR1400 bisa tembus 300km/jam? belum jelas benar.

ZZR1400 lebilh pendek dari Suzuki Hayabisa, dan bobotnya juga 20kg lebih ringan. Frame aluminium monokok menumpang pada garpu up side down 43mm yang fully adjustable. Dibelakang dipasang monoshock, juga adjustable untuk mengatur preload, compression dan rebound.

Pengereman -selalu jadi pertanyaan besar untuk moge-, dipilih sepasang cakram berdiamter 310mm di depan dan satu cakram 250mm di belakang.
